In the traditional tea ceremony of Japan, guests are expected to crawl through the low door of the tea house which is called Sukiya in Japanese. It implies bowing down and paying obeisance to the sacred place before participating in a ceremony that has been influenced by principles of monks as well as samurais and can take a lifetime to master.

Though tea-drinking started becoming a part of the popular culture in India only after the British started planting and producing tea locally to meet the consistently growing demand for tea in the United Kingdom, it has now become an intrinsic part of almost every Indian household.
