After 6 weeks of giving up on all things gluttonous for lent, the time to slam dunk into everything that’s chocolate and cake has arrived. But how about we change the tradition of stuffing yourself with the ‘hard to loose’ calories and instead enjoy a charming afternoon tea party with your friends and family.

Many hotels in the city are offering their own versions of Afternoon tea and can be a good option if you want to take the day off and relax with your friends or family. But if it is an intimate, private and personalized gathering that you are looking for then planning your own Afternoon tea at home or in your backyard is not such a bad idea. What’s better, is that you get to decide the menu, the décor and more importantly the guest list!

We give you a few tips on hosting a perfect afternoon tea party for the coming Easter celebration:

The Invitation

Print out pretty invitations and decorate them using lace, pearls and flowers. You can tuck in a flavoured tea bag with every envelope unique to each guest you invite. You can choose from the Sublime house of tea’s range of herbal teas

The Kit

If you don’t already own a 3 tiered cake stand yet, it is an essential buy for an afternoon tea party. You may also want to consider using your best crockery for the occasion – floral chinaware adds a certain kind of elegance and poise to your party. Don’t forget the teapots, teacups and cutlery for food.

The Décor

Once you’ve decided on the cutlery, a long table can be a great way to create a festive and magical mood. Throw on a printed table cloth or a table runner, add some lace dollies and then turn your attention to arranging beautiful flower vases to create an outdoor, natural look. While you’re at it, you can also create some place-name Easter eggs with your guests’ names iced on it, to give things a more personalized look and feel!

Drink and Nibbles

With your cutlery and décor in place, it’s now time for the most important part of the celebration – the Tea!  Whether you chose to have a traditional tea party or a cocktail affair, a separate drinks table is a must. This allows your guests to freely choose what they would like to drink. Setting up a separate tea station is advisable and make sure it offers a variety of teas. You May chose from the Sublime House of Tea’s Black tea range.

When it comes to food, keeping it lite and elegant is a complete win-win. Small finger food is the route to take – Mini sandwiches, savory quiches and tiny pies. For those craving sweet-fluffy pastries, cupcakes, macaroons and scones, all served on a 3 tiered cake stand will be irresistible!

So long, Farewell!

What better way to end a beautiful tea party and surprise your guests with a little token of appreciation – Gift them something!

If you want to gift something small and cute, a printed paper bag with some cookies, a set of herbal tea bags and a chocolate Easter egg can be quite a tasteful takeaway gift. Other gift options can include a customized ceramic jar, garden lanterns, mini cake stand or a candlestick and voila!! You’ll be sending home a happy guest with memories of a lovely Afternoon Tea Party!
